Stickers not only serve as Mario's attacks, but also help solve puzzles throughout the Paper Mario universe when placed in the correct spots. Battles are turn-based like in the original Paper Mario game, but instead of an attack menu, Mario whomps on his enemies using a sticker to attack. Stickers are the key to this imaginative adventure.

In the ending parade, Megasparkle Goomba is shown as part of a float along with all the other bosses corrupted by the Royal Stickers. After being easily defeated, this Goomba notices how the power of the Royal Sticker felt like a "dazzling dream" and that he was powerless without it, then disappears, leaving Mario and Kersti the Royal Sticker. The corrupted Goomba becomes infuriated when they leave and tries to fight Mario on his own. As a result, they leave the corrupted Goomba, stating that they prefer to be regular Goombas again. When the battle draws near the end, the other Goombas decide that, since the corrupted Goomba had his body and mind changed by the Royal Sticker, that power was too much to handle. At first, the Goombas attack regularly, as a group, but soon, the corrupted Goomba orders the other Goombas to merge with him to become the more powerful Megasparkle Goomba. The Goomba immediately orders fifteen hidden Goombas to attack Mario. The Goomba then reveals that Bowser gave him the order to guard the Royal Sticker and, with the Royal Sticker, he will become more powerful. Kersti recognizes the crown as a Royal Sticker and orders him to give it back. When Mario and Kersti make it to the top of Goomba's Fortress, the corrupted Goomba encounters Mario and threatens to turn him into confetti. The Goomba ordered his Goombas to cause trouble in the grasslands and Decalburg, as the Goombas now had power from Bowser. The corrupted Goomba soon became the self-proclaimed boss of the Goombas and became obsessed with shiny and sparkly things. One curious Goomba grabbed it and became corrupted, sticking the Royal Sticker to his head and wearing it as a crown. When Bowser accidentally broke the Sticker Comet and scattered the six Royal Stickers across the Mushroom Kingdom, the red Royal Sticker fell down to the top of the fortress. The sixteen Goombas that form it were once normal Goombas that resided at Goomba's Fortress. Kersti noticing the Royal Sticker worn by the Goomba.
